White Horseman Riding Club

A Ministry of First Baptist Church,
Newton, New Jersey

Our White Horseman Riding Club is a Christian Ministry which teaches young people responsibility & provides for fun, fellowship and outreach. Our program is dedicated to teaching children about horses, riding and the Word of God.

"And the armies which are in Heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on White Horses"  Revelation 19:14

The Lord has blessed this program with 10 wonderful wranglers, 6 gentle horses, and 30 riders, ages 5 and up, that are instructed in western horseback riding. Spring and fall sessions each comprise 7 Monday riding lessons, with the eighth session as our Awards Ceremony. Riders are divided up by teams, with five riders per team, and lessons are 2 hour long. Each lesson begins with a horse-related devotional and prayer, then each rider, teamed with their individual wrangler, begins their session. Basic-intermediary skills are taught, sprinkled with trail riding, cupcake and relay races, and other fun games. Utilizing a pony and cart, driving has even been taught during one of our sessions. After the lesson is over, each child goes home with a copy of that day's devotional, as well as a sheet of horse facts and the little handout of the day.

The cost of this program is $25.00 for the entire session, and fees may be waived for hardship reasons. Each new rider receives a monogrammed t-shirt with the White Horsemen logo and the child's name, as well as a team patch to sew onto the shirt.

The Awards Ceremony is an opportunity for each child to be individually recognized for their accomplishments, and for them to receive engraved marble trophies and blue ribbons.

There is a great deal of upward mobility within the program. Each child begins as a rider and, through skill (and attaining certain age levels), may be promoted to Junior Wrangler, Lead Wrangler, or a Full Wrangler status. Junior and Lead Wranglers assist the wranglers in the instruction, and receive special medallions at the Awards for their participation.

All children are welcomed in the name of Christ, regardless of religious affiliation, race or creed. Special needs are happily accommodated, as long as no special equipment needs to be used. The only requirements are a shoe/boot with a heel and big smiles!
